JOAN RYAN

Joan Ryan transitioned her previous career as an attorney to Organization Development, Leadership Coaching and Enneagram teaching, about 20 years ago.  She has worked as a senior leadership coach and trainer with Senior Management in international law firms, medical settings, major corporations and nonprofit organizations including major work for USAID in the Global Health field.

She is an internationally recognized Enneagram expert. Joan received Certification as an Enneagram Teacher from the Palmer/Daniels Enneagram Professional Training Program in 1996 and continues to base her Enneagram work firmly within the Narrative Methods.

She had the distinct honor of being mentored directly by both Helen Palmer and the late Dr. David Daniels. For the past several years, she has focused on exploring intersections between the Enneagram and Internal Family Systems (IFS-Institute.org). Working with Tammy Sollenberger (Tammysollenberger.com) she has recently completed a chapter for the new reference work “Altogether Us: Integrating the IFS Model with Key Modalities, Communities, and Trends”, editor, Jenna Riemersma to be published in August 2023.  They teach courses and have recorded a series of podcasts to detail this work (see IFS and the Enneagram page for).

Joan is the co-creator and co-lead teacher for Enneagram Thailand (now Thai Enneagram Association) a teaching and learning community established in 2003 in Bangkok, which continues to grow and thrive. Her amazing teaching partner in this project is Santikaro, (www.kevala.org). Her work in Thailand expanded with a series of workshops in partnership with Dr. Tana Nilchakovit.  These workshops were offered to groups including young psychiatrists of a major Bangkok Medical School.

Joan is the author of a card-sort tool and structured interview entitled “Help me find my Enneagram Type” that can be used to assist those new to the Enneagram to find their type. See “Tools”.

She is a Founding Fellow, Institute of Coaching (affiliate of McLean Hospital of Harvard Medical School).

Joan holds a J.D. from New England Law, and an A.B. from Washington University in St. Louis.
